Breezing down the Appian Way (Appia Antica) was absolutely exhilarating. We were so blessed to have wonderful weather, with the sun beating down on our backs but oddly chilly weather whipping through our hair. The Appian Way was one of the earliest and strategically most important Roman roads of the ancient republic. It connected Rome to Southeast Italy. And till this day, the road is still used, albeit not for the transportation of troops, tourists fill the streets as well as many residents of the Appian Way and those living on the famous road are on one of the most expensive prime properties.

Our first stop! Unfortunately we weren’t allowed to take photographs of the catacomb when we were underground.
Everyone in our English speaking group moving towards the area where the introduction to the catacombs was going to be held by our guide.
Our guide for the tour giving us a Cliff’s Notes version about the catacombs.
