Spelunking in the Hallein Salt Mines (Austria)

This was indeed another unusual experience. We had great fun at the Salt Mines! We had to don a special suite so that we wouldn’t ruin our clothes with friction burn and dirt.

We also had the experience of riding the originally used slides in the salt mines. Another adventure I looked forward to! But first, we had to take a train ride into the salt mines. The tour took around 2 hours from start to finish and it was nice and chilly down in the tunnels.

Salt Mines slide_mellempixIt was fun sliding down the salt mine slides just like how the workers did back in the day. We had to straddle the slide like such, with a thick wooden beam under us. The surface of the wood was really smooth, aiding us in our speedy descent. The heavier you were, the faster you went, which is about the only time I wished I was fatter.

Below are photographs of the salt mines.
