This is a place definitely off the beaten path. Our guide had to use the coordinates we gave him to organise this special detour just for us. But I think he enjoyed it too! It was an interesting experience to walk down live train tracks, which I only found out after I had been happily tromping down the middle of it for quite awhile. Our guide informed us that this route was still active and being used, so we should keep our ears keen for any rumbling noise. Haha!
Fortunately we didn’t encounter any passing train that day and spent a good couple of hours on the tracks snapping photos and just enjoying the serenity of being one with nature.
And on our way back, when we stopped by some old ruins, we had a little treat and learned how to crack open fresh walnuts given to us by a friendly farmer in the area.

Looking down the Tunnel of Love.

Stop over at the ruins on the way back to Sibiu.

Learning how to crack fresh walnuts. A demonstration by our superb guide, Florin.

Lots of fresh walnuts! 10 seconds off the tree.

On the way back to town, we passed by a gypsie settlement. Unique design. We learned that it is common to see many of the gypsie houses incomplete, something about avoiding payment of some sort of land tax. So they keep it incomplete and only live in certain completed sections of the house.
Below are more photos taken on our trip a couple of hours outside of Sibiu.
