Traveling the Transfagarasan (Romania)

It was a cold, foggy and wet day. The first half of the day, we weren’t able to see past 10 feet in front of us and we were covered in dew drops. But our awesome guide backtracked after our stop at Poenari and we waited for quite a bit for the fog to clear enough so that I had a window of about 15 minutes to snap some photos before the fog rolled back in. By then, we were freezing and made haste to the car. It was after all 3 degrees up there and we weren’t all that dressed for it. Minor error in judgement, with regard to the weather.

Overall, we had a great time up there squinting through the fog, trying to get a glimpse of the highway. It was well worth the wait.

Running for more than 150 kilometres in length, the Transfagarasan Highway is Romania’s most spectacular and famous road. On the way to the highest point of the road, we passed by the Vidraru dam and lake.
