Sauntering through the Turda Salt Mines (Romania)

Salina Turda is a salt mine located in the area of Turda, Cluj County, Romania. The Salina Turda has been a halotherapy center and a popular tourist attraction since its inauguration in 1992. It is one of the most beautiful underground places in the world and is globally ranked 22 as the most spectacular tourist destination.

The temperature down in the mines is constantly chilly and is really nice to visit during the hot days of summer. But it would be awfully crowded during that peak season, of course.

For recreational purposes, there are pool tables, table tennis courts, a children’s playground, darts, an underground Ferris wheel and a bowling alley.

All in all, it is a beautiful and unique salt mine.

6100View of the Rudolf hall, which measures 260 ft long, 160 ft wide and 130 ft high. This is the elevator that transports tourists between the top and ground level. An alternative route is to walk the wooden stairs.

6053Crossing over to the floating UFO on the lake, you can see how cavernous it really is.

6111Thick layers of salt covers the stairs still used till this day.
