Icy Inari (Finland)

Inari is the largest municipality in Finland and one of its main source of income for the quiet town is tourism. It’s a beautiful place with clean, crisp and freezing air. A welcome change from the usual tropical weather I’m used to, albeit not an easy one as I was rather unprepared and did not bring proper gloves and face masks. So my fingers froze (what it felt like to me anyway) and my nose dripped all the time I was riding the bicycle through town, a quick way of moving around, as compared to trudging through snow covered walkways in non-insulated shoes. Surprisingly, I did not fall off my bike this time. I was rather worried about it as I have never cycled on snow before, but it felt a lot like cycling on sand. An interesting experience indeed.

Below are a few photos taken around Inari where we passed through for a bit coming from Ivalo. Absolutely tranquil landscape and being there gave me a sense of calm, much unlike the city where I’m from. I wished I could stay there forever with a mobile built-in heater attached to my clothes.

Here’s the bus station in Ivalo… and those are our bicycles left without a lock, at the front of the station. Crime seems to be non-existent here. Wow! Love it!

On our way to Inari we ran into this sweet treat! We saw reindeer! “Why did the reindeer cross the road?”

And below are photos snapped around the lake in Inari town. Nothing much to do here but relax, get a cuppa and walk around the neighbourhood. But lovely all the same. Most of the lake was cast in shadow, it was a cloudy day, hence making it even chillier. Hardly anyone was out and about except for a couple of other tourists busy snapping away with their cameras at the stunning landscape. We couldn’t walk around for too long as it was just too cold so we hung around the lake just enjoying the zen-like atmosphere.
