St. James’ Ossuary (Brno – Czech)

Ossuaries are a popular tourist attraction in Czech and the St. James’ Ossuary is one that shouldn’t be missed. The other being the Sedlec Ossuary. The St. James’ Ossuary is one of the “newly” found ossuaries. In 2012 the ossuary underneath the Church of St. James was opened to the public. It was discovered at the turn of the century during the survey of the Brno underground in 2001.

It is very well preserved, catalogued and definitely an interesting visit to say the least. They provide reading material in multiple languages for a “self-tour” of the place. On another note, the visit is not for the squeamish or those adverse to being surrounded by hundreds of human remains with endless pairs of empty eye sockets staring at you while you walk through the ossuary.
